History: 2006-Present

2006-2007

A restructuring of the officer core at the end of the previous year created the new position of President, which senior Daniel Herriges steps in to fill. He and sophomore Musical Director Caitlin Gerrity lead a smaller, younger group through fall quarter, starting with a performance at a very ritzy welcoming reception for Stanford's new Athletic Director. Additional auditions at the end of the quarter lead to a brand new member, Sidney Le, who would go on to lead the group the following year, as well as the return of former member Daniel Foley, who had been missed.

Shades of Red is released in late fall shortly after its opening track, "We Are, " is selected for Voices Only 2007. In the winter, MixedCo returns to the competitive scene for the first time in almost ten years, entering the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. A true sign of the MixedCo family, a song arranged by a former prolific member ("The Mummer's Dance," arranged by Doy Charnsupharindr) gets the group qualified for the quarter finals.

Spring Tour is originally planned to be in Hawaii, but at the insistence of one particularly eager group member plans are changed so the group can have the opportunity to try out for Kelly Clarkson. Despite belligerent traffic in Washington DC, dancing street gangs in New York, and a bus that needs to be pushed to get it to move anywhere, the Co makes the very last audition slot, only to be disqualified when said eager member rips off his pants and starts dancing to "Superfreak".

...actually, that's the plot for Spring Show 2007, "Little Mixed Sunshine". For the real Spring Tour - also located on the east coast -MixedCo takes full advantage of the (in)famous Chinatown bus system, traveling to Philadelphia, Washington DC, New York, and Boston. Stops include Georgetown University and the high schools of group members, as well as an encore performance with Brandeis VoiceMale following their trip to California in February. The Co is delighted by the much-warmer-than-expected weather, a great pickup line involving french fries, and something called "Frisky Dingo."

2007-2008

Thanks to a well-planned and appropriately sultry recruitment campaign run by new President Aria Florant and Musical Director Sidney Le, the Co starts the year off on the right foot with the addition of ten fabulous newbies to its core of dedicated returners. The new members quickly solidify their entertainment value by performing a skit at Alum Show that hilariously (and strangely accurately) made fun of their older and wiser counterparts.

The first difficulty of the year arises in December, when the group is hired to sing at a holiday party despite knowing absolutely no holiday songs. Never ones to back down from a challenge, lyrics to known songs are changed and extra time is put into learning some simple (and some not-so-simple) arrangements. The results are humorous but overall successful. For posterity, let it be known that Santa’s back and he’s on the rooftops shouting out that he’s ready to go.

Love Sucks continues to raise the bar (and shorten skirt lengths) for a cappella shows, with skits mocking bicycle crashes, Andrew Wyhinny, and a cappella shows themselves. Guest performers show off their skills at Spoken Word and stepping, much to the audience's delight. The show also features the premiere of "Apologize," arranged by Deke Sharon, co-founder of pretty much every a cappella organization you've ever heard of. Upon seeing the great time the audience had at the show, MixedCo decides to watch the video of it themselves, complete with the drinking rules they had given everyone. Hilarity ensues.

Spring Show 2008 relays the tale of MixedCo's meteoric rise to and subsequent fall from fame, complete with Scientologists, homeless people, unwittingly racist band names, and adult films stars, in “E! True Hollywood Story presents: Mixed Company”. A change of venue to the new Old Union ballroom and free admission lead to the loudest, most raucous Spring Show audience yet.

Other highlights of the year include Spring Retreat Round Two (and the most bizarre version of football ever played), increasingly familiar Jamba Juice employees, and the taking over of Kappa Sigma by the Co (or is it the other way around...?).
